Set in 1972, this play by Tim Keogh follows the origin story as one of the most substantial figures in English music canon – Manchester’s very own Steven Patrick Morrissey.
With everything set against the young Morrissey, from his teachers, to his priests, to his peers, the story follows the young man as he struggles with his sexuality, life and family and eventually, as per the plot description “pins his hopes on someone he meets at a surprise visit to a party.
The play deals in themes of masculinity and sexuality through one of the most controversial and divisive artists of all time – whilst last years England is Mine dealt with Morrissey as a protagonist, he here is a metaphor, an enigma – something he, himself, would be amused by at the very least.
